Maya Angelou Video Message
Sadly Dr Angelou won’t be able to attend the launch event on October 4th (due to ill health) but she’s taken the time to record this message for us.

I am pleased, beyond the telling of I, by the countries of Ghana, South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago. The decision to name the
children's libraries in my honour, delights and humbles me. I am grateful."

THE PROJECT
The objective of the Milestone Library Project is to
establish a productive living monument in "2008, the Year of Reading", that combines
the evening of the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade with the world renown literary icon,
Dr Angelou's legacy of nurture, education and motivation, to help children lift themselves out of poverty through reading.
The buildings will be ecologically sound and sustainable, using low cost local materials and powered by solar energy. The design of a nature reserve on the grounds of the buildings, will help the children to learn about looking after their environment, whilst learning to read.
